Van Syckel Insurance
was started in South Bound Brook in 1865 by Elbridge Van Syckel, a Dutch settler. That is not a misprint. It is over 150 years old! It moved to Hamilton Street in Bound Brook in 1937, as Elbridge’s son, Thomas took over the business. In 1971, Thomas’s son, Sief, moved the business to Union Avenue where it currently stands. Thomas Jr. took over the business when his father died in 1977. It previously had a realty business that Tom Jr. sold. That is still operating as Century 21-Van Syckel Realtors. In 2008, Tom Jr.’s son Ryan became the 5th generation operator of the same business. It is probably one of the state’s few businesses to still be operated by the same family for such a long time. Ryan is the great great grandson of the founder, Elbridge Van Syckel. It currently serves over 3500 clients throughout the state. Anybody who has used an independent insurance agent knows that the choice of companies and the service is far superior to any company owned agent.
